Hong Kong Comedies are a confluence of Chinese and Western cultures, creating a distinctive “Hong Kong-style humour” that manifests a social reality and a human touch unique to Hong Kong, making it one of the most important genres of Hong Kong cinema.
In support of the Festival theme of “More Than Joy”, the Hong Kong Film Archive will present this screening programme “Laughter Double Bill: Hong Kong Comedy Film Spectacular” showcasing films starring the greatest comedy stars throughout the years, such as Ma Si Tsang, Connie Chan Po Chu, the Hui Brothers, Raymond Wong, John Sham, Sammo Hung, Fung Bo Bo, Jackie Chan and Stephen Chow. The programme will feature a selection of 16 comedies spanning from the 1940s to the new millennium, paired into eight thematically related double bills.
